When she got the phone, her live-in daughter (my aunt) set up the phone for her, and set up all the accounts, passwords and passcodes, as well as setting up FaceID among other things, I wasn't around during setup (I live in a different city) My grandmother is having an issue remembering the (6 digit) passcode for her iPhone (she has onset Alzheimer's and forgets things often) IPhone Restore without iTunes Okay, so this is going to be long but bear with me Thanks for taking the time with this thread. To clarify, it’s an iPad 2, running iOS 7.11 In the past, this iPad has been trusted in the iTunes of the MBP I'm currently using, so I guess it's something to consider.Ģ) If the answer is yes and I proceed to restore the iPad afterwards, will it still require me the old passcode? I know this question sounds weird because the idea is to skip the old passcode, but I've never restored a device before, so I really don't know how it works.ģ) What backup is more complete, the one done locally or the iCloud option?Ĥ) If I turn off the iPad does it reset the number of failed attempts?ĥ) Assuming I can create a fresh backup, can I use this backup and restore it to a different iPad?Ħ) Does a backup contain literally everything or do some of the files get erased? I have a backup of this iPad from about 3 years ago, but I’d like to know the following:ġ) Can I perform a backup now without the passcode via iTunes? What I mean by this is having the latest possible backup, so remembering the passcode stops being an issue.

I’ve used two attempts so far and then stopped trying for fear of making the situation worse. Thank you!įorgotten passcode / backup / device restore I forgot my old iPad 2 (from 2011) pass code. If anyone has a recommendation for any data recovery software program they have used and had success with I would greatly appreciate it. Yes, I know, I'm kicking myself for it now. Unfortunately the factory reset is my only option since I was not using iCloud, and I did not connect my phone to my laptop at any point over the past two years that I've had it, therefore never backing it up to iTunes. I'm fine with wiping the phone, I just want to be able to retrieve my photos/videos as I have a four year old and a six year old (even more reason why I should have been utilizing the cloud, I know, I know), but there are so many data recovery software options and I'm leery of what is legit and what isn't. I spoke with Apple support and they informed me that I will have to do a factory reset in order to remove the passcode. I attempted several more versions of what I thought I could have possibly changed it to, got the "1 minute/5 minute/15 minute/1 hour" disabled warnings, and am now at the point where I have one attempt left at guessing this fricken passcode before my phone is disabled indefinitely. I frantically tried a few more times in disbelief that I had entered the new code incorrectly or somehow mistaken what I thought I changed it to, and ended up deactivating my touch ID by doing so. Right after changing it I tried testing the new passcode and was not able to unlock my phone using that code. I'm looking for a recommendation for a specific iPhone data recovery software, preferably one that someone has had success retrieving photos with after performing a factory reset on an iPhone without a backup.Įmbarrassing backstory- I changed the passcode on my iphone 6s a couple days ago.
